Their response to this challenge provides a profound lesson in leadership and support within the ministry.
The apostles made a bold move that would shape the future of Christian ministry, declaring that it is not right for them to be caught up with menial tasks. This decision wasn’t about hierarchy or devaluing certain types of work; it was about recognizing and utilizing the diverse gifts within the body of Christ for the common good and the glory of God.
This scenario echoes the wisdom God imparted to Moses. Moses, overwhelmed by the task of leading and judging the people of Israel alone, was advised by his father-in-law Jethro to delegate responsibilities to capable leaders (Exodus 18:17-26). This not only ensured that the needs of the people were met more efficiently but also that Moses could focus on his direct calling from God. Both instances show a timeless truth: effective ministry relies on shared responsibility and the mutual support of the community.
